Popular Bulgarian regions in a nutshell


 

   Our country Bulgaria is abundant in green countrysides, majestic mountains and natural reserves. We would like to list some of the most popular regions where you can spend your holidays or you can choose for constant living. First, let us say a few words about the location.

  Bulgaria is located in the eastern part of the Balkan Peninsula. It borders on Greece and Turkey to the south, on Romania and the Danube River, respectively, to the north, Macedonia and Serbia to the west and the Black Sea to the east. The mountainous landscape is predominant in the country. Magnificent mountains are as follows the Balkan mountains and the Sredna Gora in the central part and the southern mountain ranges of Pirin, Rila and Rhodope mountains.

  If you love dynamical lifestyle, the most suitable Bulgarian region is the capital city of Sofia. It is the most densely populated area located in the western part of Bulgaria. The number of its inhabitants is about 1.2 million. It is situated in close proximity to the wonderful mountains of Pirin and Rila that are famous for their uniquely beautiful ski resorts as well as excellent snowboard and ski conditions. You can also find a number of mineral springs and relaxation sites. The Rhodope region is a home to a number of pretty small villages with an incredible location. These mountain villages are an excellent option for recreation far away from the noise of the big cities. There you can enjoy the genuine beauty of the nature.

  The central part of Bulgaria has the attractive name Valley of the Thracian Kings or the Valley of Roses. Kazanlak is considered the unofficial capital of this region famous for its rose oil production an its various museums. The city of Plovdiv is the Bulgaria’s second-most densely populated region that is distinguished for its rich cultural history.

  One of Bulgaria’s most remarkable and illustrious ancient settlements is the town of Veliko Turnovo, aka the Old Bulgarian capital city. It will enchant you with its majestic mountainous landscape, the wonderful ‘’Tsarevets’’ fortress and the old monasteries around the town.

  The city of Varna is one of the most cosmopolitan Bulgarian cities. It is the third-largest city located on the Black Sea coast. It is a wonderful tourism attraction and an important cultural and economic center. Other picturesque sea resorts are Sozopol and the ancient resort town of Nessebar which is incorporated in the UNESCO list of cultural heritage.
