About 80 000 tourists are expecting to visit Belogradchik

The northwestern Bulgarian town of Belogradchik will be visited by over 80 000 foreign and Bulgarian tourists as the interest towards its sights is growing significantly, local municipal officials announced Monday.
According to data of the Belogradchik History Museum some 45 000 tourists had visited the town since the beginning of 2008. Over 1300 of them arrived during the recent weekend.
Belogradchik is mostly famous for its well-preserved ancient fortress, the rocks outside the town, which have various interesting shapes, and for the Magurata Cave, which boasts some of the oldest in Europe cave paintings by pre-historic people.
The Belogradchik Municipality recently won a competition of the State Tourism Agency entitled "The Thracian Spirit - Excellent Bulgarian Destination". Thus, the town will present Bulgaria at the European competition in the French city of Bordeaux in September.
